General Policies

  • Full attention must be given to the teacher at all times. As talking can often be disruptive, students are asked to refrain from chatting during instruction. Lesson-related questions are, of course, welcome. If a student has a question, they must raise their hand and wait to be called on.

  • The Academy treasures your respect towards teachers, staff, students and other patrons.

  • Persistent behavioral problems are grounds for a parent/teacher conference and may result in dismissal.

  • No leaning, hanging or playing on the barres is permitted.

  • No food, drink or gum is allowed in the classroom.

  • Water bottles with a secure lid are acceptable.

  • No rough housing, running or otherwise disruptive behavior in the classroom or building.

  • No sitting during class, except when stretching or instructed to do so by the teacher.

  • Out of respect for our teachers’ time, and in the interest of keeping to our class schedule, we ask that you please call or email to make an appointment with your child’s teacher and/or the school director to discuss any issues or concerns you may have about your child and our school.

  • Students, parents, and anyone who enters our doors are all expected to show respect to every student/patron of Miss Marie’s Academy of Dance.

  • Mean, malicious, or any otherwise hurtful, offensive or abusive talk or language directed towards or about another person will not be tolerated from anyone.

  • Parents/guardians are not permitted in the classroom after the start of class.

Attendance and Punctuality

  • Students should arrive at least ten (10) minutes prior to the scheduled start time of their class.

  • Students will not be allowed to participate in class for any of the following reasons (in any of these cases, while the student may not participate, they are required to stay and observe):

    • Arriving late to class. (This is for the safety of the student. If the body is not properly and sufficiently warmed up it can lead to injury.)

    • Dress code requirements are not met

    • Hair is not secured away from the face in a neat ballet bun or ponytail. Hair bands are not sufficient. (Our teachers DO NOT do hair. It is the responsibility of the student/parent/guardian to have their hair done properly prior to the start of class.)

  • If you arrive late to class, you must ask permission of the teacher to enter the classroom. Students should quietly wait just inside the door until the teacher directs the student into the classroom. This helps to keep disruptions to a minimum. It is up to the teacher’s discretion whether the student will be allowed to participate or asked to sit and observe.

  • Students who are sick and/or contagious MUST stay home.Injured students should attend class to observe. A doctor’s note is required before a previously injured student is allowed to again participate in class.

  • In the event that only one (1) student shows up for any given class, the class will be taught as a private lesson and will be one half the length of the normally scheduled class. (Classes less than an hour in duration may be cut slightly short in this event but generally will be longer than this “one half rule”.)
